The International Crisis Group is seeking an experienced Analyst for UN Advocacy and Research to join its hybrid team in New York, United States. The role focuses on supporting the organisation’s day-to-day advocacy with United Nations (UN) institutions and member states, monitoring relevant UN forums, and contributing to UN-related research, analysis, and publications. The analyst will work closely with the Head of UN Affairs and the Director of Global Issues and Institutions to represent Crisis Group at UN engagements and initiatives. Purpose of the Role The analyst plays a central role in shaping Crisis Group’s interactions with the UN system, ensuring that the organisation’s policy positions are effectively communicated and influence relevant debates. Responsibilities include: Monitoring developments in the UN Security Council, General Assembly, and other forums relevant to Crisis Group’s work. Contributing to research, briefings, and publications that inform advocacy efforts. Representing Crisis Group at formal and informal UN meetings, as well as public events, media engagements, and high-level forums. Supporting strategic initiatives that advance peacebuilding, conflict prevention, sanctions implementation, and peacekeeping efforts. Key Responsibilities The role entails both strategic advocacy and operational support. Core responsibilities include: Acting as a point of contact within Crisis Group for tracking UN policy developments relevant to regional programs and cross-cutting issues. Coordinating with the Head of UN Affairs to establish and maintain strong networks within UN member states, particularly focusing on Security Council engagements, and across the UN peace and security pillar. Supporting the design and execution of targeted advocacy plans, representing Crisis Group at meetings with UN officials, diplomats, NGOs, think tanks, and academics. Organising Crisis Group’s activities surrounding the annual high-level UN General Assembly sessions and other key UN events. Collaborating with colleagues to produce analytical and policy-oriented written work that shapes debates on UN peace and security activities, both regionally and thematically. Delivering oral briefings to relevant stakeholders on Crisis Group policy positions and activities. Supporting research and advocacy visits by Crisis Group staff to the UN. Representing Crisis Group’s policy positions in public-facing media engagements. Assisting the Development Team with day-to-day fundraising activities with permanent missions accredited to the UN. Coordinating with the Global Issues and Institutions Program on cross-cutting initiatives and other programmatic priorities. Candidate Requirements Crisis Group seeks candidates with a strong background in international peace and security, policy advocacy, and multilateral engagement. Essential requirements include: At least three years of experience in NGOs, government, multilateral institutions, or other relevant international organisations. Demonstrated experience in policy advocacy, networking, and stakeholder engagement. Solid knowledge of international affairs; detailed knowledge of the UN system is advantageous. Proven organisational skills, teamwork, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Strong English language and writing skills. Proficiency in one or more additional UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is beneficial. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is advantageous but secondary to demonstrable experience and results. Eligibility to work in the United States; Crisis Group cannot sponsor a work permit for this role. Compensation and Application The expected gross annual salary for this position ranges from $68,000 to $75,000, determined based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
