Application Deadline

April 1, 2026

Description

A new consultancy opportunity is now open with IMPACT Transforming Natural Resource Management, offering experienced communications professionals the chance to contribute to impactful global work. This remote role is designed for a highly skilled French writer and editor who can support international development projects through high-quality content creation and editing. The position is open to candidates based in Africa, Europe, or the Americas, providing flexibility while engaging in meaningful assignments that influence policy, research, and humanitarian communication. About IMPACT IMPACT Transforming Natural Resource Management is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to improving the governance of natural resources in regions affected by conflict, insecurity, and human rights challenges. The organization works closely with local partners to develop sustainable solutions that promote accountability, equity, and long-term development. With headquarters in Canada and offices across several African countries including Zimbabwe, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, IMPACT operates at the intersection of research, policy, and advocacy. Role Overview The French Writer and Editor Consultant will join the Global Communications team on an on-demand basis. This means assignments will be project-based, allowing flexibility in workload and scheduling. For each task, the consultant will agree on deliverables, timelines, and payment terms before beginning work. The primary goal of the role is to strengthen IMPACT’s communication outputs by ensuring clarity, accuracy, and engagement across all French-language content. The consultant will also support multilingual communication needs and help translate complex technical information into accessible formats. The application deadline for this role is April 1, 2026. Key Responsibilities The consultant will be responsible for producing and refining a wide range of written materials. These include research reports, briefing papers, training guides, and other public-facing documents. Core responsibilities include developing clear and compelling content tailored to different audiences, editing and improving existing materials for structure and clarity, and ensuring that technical concepts are communicated effectively without unnecessary jargon. The consultant will also support fact-checking processes to maintain accuracy and credibility in all publications. In addition, the role requires strict adherence to IMPACT’s editorial standards and style guide to ensure consistency across all outputs. The consultant will play an important role in enhancing how the organization communicates its impact and achievements. Required Qualifications and Experience Candidates must demonstrate a strong background in communications, writing, or editing. A degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required. Applicants should have at least seven years of relevant professional experience, with a proven track record of producing high-quality written content. Experience working with international non-profit organizations or within the development sector is highly desirable. Strong copy-editing skills are essential, along with the ability to adapt writing style and tone for different audiences and platforms. Candidates should also have experience working with technical content such as training materials, toolkits, or educational resources. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is expected, along with excellent organizational and time management skills. The ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision is critical for success in this role. Language and Interpersonal Skills Fluency in French is mandatory, as the role focuses heavily on French-language content. Candidates who can also communicate effectively in English will have an added advantage, particularly when collaborating with international teams. Strong interpersonal skills are important, as the consultant will work closely with colleagues across different regions and cultural contexts. The ability to provide constructive feedback and manage the editing process diplomatically is essential. Key Competencies Successful candidates will demonstrate attention to detail, creativity, and a commitment to producing high-quality work. They should be proactive, capable of identifying potential communication gaps, and able to suggest improvements. The role requires a self-starter who can work independently while remaining responsive to team needs. Adaptability is also important, as the consultant may work on complex topics in fast-paced and evolving environments. A strong sense of professionalism, respect for diverse perspectives, and commitment to ethical communication practices are also key attributes for this position. Application Process To apply, candidates must submit a complete application package via email. This includes a cover letter outlining their interest in the role, a curriculum vitae limited to three pages, and a portfolio or three writing samples. The samples should be non-academic and demonstrate the candidate’s ability to produce clear and engaging content. Applicants are also required to include a financial proposal, specifying their preferred rates, either hourly or per word. All applications must be sent to jobs@impacttransform.org before the deadline. The subject line should clearly indicate the position title and the applicant’s name. Due to the high volume of applications expected, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further steps. Conclusion This consultancy offers a valuable opportunity for experienced French-speaking communications professionals to contribute to meaningful international work. By supporting IMPACT’s mission, the selected consultant will play a role in shaping how critical issues related to natural resource management and human rights are communicated globally. With its flexible structure and global reach, this role is well-suited for professionals seeking both independence and purpose in their work.
