Role Overview: Communications Specialist The Communications Specialist will support the Joint SDG Fund Secretariat by managing digital communications, visual branding, and multimedia content production. The role works closely with the Head of Communications and collaborates with programme and partnership teams to amplify the Fund’s global impact. This professional will oversee online engagement, media relationships, graphic design production, and knowledge-sharing activities across the organization. Key Responsibilities 1. Digital Communications A major focus of the role is managing the Joint SDG Fund’s digital presence and audience engagement. Responsibilities include: Maintaining and strengthening the Fund’s presence across digital platforms. Coordinating the creation and publishing of daily content, including text, images, videos, and HTML. Building relationships with partners to expand reach and increase traffic to digital platforms. Monitoring trends in web design and digital communications to keep content modern and effective. The specialist will also ensure that digital messaging supports meaningful engagement with global stakeholders. 2. Visual Identity and Branding The Communications Specialist will play a central role in shaping the Fund’s visual identity across multiple communication channels. Key tasks include: Producing high-quality communication materials for print, social media, and multimedia platforms. Designing engaging visual elements for websites, newsletters, and campaigns. Creating infographics, reports, brochures, posters, and other visual materials. Editing short videos and multimedia content for campaigns and social media. The role also requires ensuring that all visual outputs align with the Joint SDG Fund’s branding guidelines and communication strategy. 3. Graphic Design and Multimedia Production Graphic design is another core component of this position. The specialist will conceptualize and produce visual content that clearly communicates development results and initiatives. Responsibilities include: Developing multimedia assets such as infographics, animations, and videos. Leading design projects from concept to final production. Managing external vendors and coordinating with internal teams. Ensuring visual materials are optimized for both digital and print use. The role also involves managing workflows for design projects and introducing new creative approaches to enhance communications. Knowledge Management and Collaboration Beyond communications production, the specialist will support knowledge management across the UN system. This includes: Identifying and sharing best practices related to SDG programmes. Supporting knowledge-sharing networks and communication repositories. Training and advising UNDP staff on communication strategies and tools. Ensuring knowledge products are properly organized and accessible. Required Qualifications Candidates applying for the Communications Specialist position must meet specific education and experience requirements. Education Applicants should have: A Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, or a related field, or A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with additional qualifying experience. Professional Experience Candidates should possess: At least 5 years of experience in communications with a Master’s degree, or 7 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree. Relevant experience includes: Designing communications strategies and campaigns Writing and editing articles and multimedia content Managing social media storytelling Coordinating with designers, developers, and multimedia specialists Working with teams and civil society partners Experience using digital platforms and software tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and web-based management systems is also essential. Desired Skills and Languages Additional qualifications that strengthen a candidate’s application include: Experience working within the United Nations system Knowledge of Drupal or other web management platforms Experience collaborating with private sector partners Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage.
