Scholarship Amount Students may receive between: €3,000 and €22,000 per year The scholarship is not paid directly toward tuition fees. Instead, the funds are given to students, who can decide how to allocate them for: Tuition fees Living expenses Study materials Accommodation Applicants should note that UTS is not a full scholarship, meaning students must demonstrate the ability to cover remaining study and living costs. Funding for Two-Year Master’s Programmes For programmes lasting two years, students may receive a second-year scholarship equal to the first year. However, continuation of the scholarship requires students to meet academic performance conditions during the first year. To qualify for second-year funding, students must achieve: An average grade of at least 7 out of 10 At least 50% of required European Credits (ECTS) by the third quartile of the first academic year Failure to meet these requirements may result in the scholarship not being renewed. Additional Funding: Kipaji Scholarship Students applying for the University of Twente Scholarship may also be considered for an additional funding opportunity known as the Kipaji Scholarship. Key points include: Applicants must apply for UTS first Interest in the Kipaji Scholarship should be indicated in the motivation letter Additional eligibility criteria apply The Kipaji Scholarship is available only for programmes starting in September 2026. Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for the University of Twente Scholarship, applicants must meet several academic and administrative conditions. Basic Requirements Applicants must: Be non-EU/EEA students Apply for a qualifying Master’s programme at the University of Twente Receive a (conditional) admission letter before applying for the scholarship Obtain a student number from the university Meet Dutch visa requirements, if applicable Demonstrate strong English language proficiency English Language Requirements Applicants must meet one of the following: IELTS Academic score of 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in speaking), or TOEFL iBT score of 90 (minimum 20 in speaking) Academic Performance The scholarship is awarded to students who belong to the top 5–10% of their graduating class at their previous university. Strong academic records and excellent motivation are essential for a competitive application. Programmes Not Eligible for UTS Certain programmes and applicants are not eligible for the scholarship. The UTS is not available for: Students from EU or EEA countries Dutch citizens or current University of Twente students Students who have already completed a degree at the university Pre-Master programmes Master’s programmes offered by the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) Students who qualify for Dutch statutory tuition fees Applicants who later become eligible for statutory tuition during their studies must inform the scholarship coordinator, as the scholarship may be cancelled. Application Deadlines The scholarship has two application rounds for programmes starting in September 2026. Round 1 Application opens: 15 October 2025 Deadline: 1 February 2026 Round 2 Application opens: 1 February 2026 Deadline: 1 May 2026 Applicants who are rejected in Round 1 cannot apply again in Round 2.
