The EJIT Fellowship Rooted Futures Lab (RFL) is proud to announce the opening of applications for the Environmental Justice & Technology (EJIT) Fellowship 2026, a 12-week, project-based summer program designed for individuals passionate about the intersection of technology, infrastructure, and environmental justice. The Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for emerging leaders, creative technologists, storytellers, and researchers to contribute to applied projects that generate tangible impact for communities while advancing the field of environmental justice in technology. The EJIT Fellowship Overview The EJIT Fellowship is structured to combine independent work with collaborative engagement, allowing Fellows to contribute meaningfully to specific project areas while working closely with RFL staff and a global cohort. Each track is designed to produce practical outputs that support communities, foster critical inquiry, and strengthen research and practice in Environmental Justice & Technology. For Summer 2026, RFL is offering four specialized fellowship tracks: Creative Technologist Fellow (Data Centers & Environmental Justice) – Focuses on examining the environmental and social impacts of data centers and other digital infrastructure, while developing innovative technology-based solutions. Investigative Storyteller Fellow (Data Centers & Environmental Justice) – Combines research and storytelling to document and communicate the effects of technology on communities and ecosystems. Study Hall Fellow (Democratic Governance & Collective Systems) – Explores governance structures and collaborative systems to support more equitable technology deployment. GLITCH Zine Fellow (Editor & Strategist) – Focuses on producing critical, creative, and accessible content for RFL’s GLITCH Zine, highlighting intersections of tech, environment, and justice. The EJIT Fellowship: Fellowship Details The EJIT Fellowship 2026 runs from June 15 to September 4, 2026, with a flexible commitment of approximately 20 hours per week, making it accessible to applicants worldwide. The fellowship is remote, allowing global participation, and includes a $3,000 stipend, distributed according to a flexible payment schedule.
