Gloria’s Foundation Fellowship 2027: $5,000 Stipend for Activists, Artists and Changemakers in New York
globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

November 9, 2026

Description

Gloria’s Foundation is inviting applications for its 2027 Fellowship, a one-year programme supporting activists, artists, changemakers and creative thinkers whose work or independent projects focus on justice. Two fellows will be selected to participate in the programme from January to December 2027. The fellowship aims to provide participants with resources, a supportive community and a safe, inspiring space to advance their work and organising activities. Selected fellows will receive a $5,000 stipend, access to the Foundation’s workspace and library in Manhattan, opportunities to engage with its community, and the chance to organise discussions on issues relevant to their work. Applications opened on 1 October 2026 and must be submitted by 1 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). About Gloria’s Foundation Fellowship Gloria’s Foundation is dedicated to advancing the feminist movement while honouring the lifelong work of feminist icon Gloria Steinem. Its fellowship supports individuals working towards justice by creating opportunities for independent projects, organising, community engagement and creative thinking. For the 2027 cohort, the Foundation will select two fellows whose work aligns with these objectives. The programme is designed to provide practical resources and opportunities for fellows to develop their projects while connecting with people involved in justice-oriented work. The fellowship runs for 12 months, from January through December 2027. Applicants should note that the programme requires a connection to the New York City metropolitan area because fellows must access the Foundation’s physical workspace. Fellowship Benefits and Support Successful applicants will receive several forms of support throughout the fellowship period. $5,000 stipend: Each selected fellow will receive a stipend to support their work during the programme. Workspace in Manhattan: Fellows can access Gloria’s Foundation’s space on the Upper East Side of New York City twice per month, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Visits must be booked at least one week in advance. Office equipment: The workspace includes a Mac desktop computer and printer for on-site use. Library access: Fellows can use the Foundation’s library during their visits. Community and mentorship opportunities: Participants will receive support from the Foundation’s team and opportunities to build relationships with members of the fellowship community. Talking Circle programming: Fellows will be invited to participate in the Foundation’s Talking Circle activities, with dates and topics announced as they are scheduled. Opportunity to organise discussions: Each fellow may organise two Talking Circles during the fellowship, selecting topics and inviting up to five guests, subject to approval by the Foundation’s team. These sessions must be scheduled at least two months in advance and cannot be held during holidays. On-site lunch: Lunch will be provided when fellows work at the Foundation’s premises. Participants will also be expected to contribute to the programme’s development and the Foundation’s future. This may include providing feedback through discussions or interviews with Foundation staff. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Gloria’s Foundation Fellowship 2027: Be at least 18 years old. Be able to work in the United States. Identify as an activist, artist, changemaker or creative thinker. Have work or an independent project centred on justice. Be located in the New York City metropolitan area or arrange their own housing in the area for the fellowship’s duration. Be able to provide one professional reference upon request. Important location requirement: This is not a fully remote fellowship. Fellows must be able to access the Foundation’s workspace in Manhattan. Gloria’s Foundation does not provide housing assistance, so applicants who need to relocate must arrange and fund their own accommodation. The published terms contain a minor inconsistency: the fellowship duration is stated as January–December 2027, while the eligibility section refers to arranging New York-area housing for July–December. Applicants should contact the Foundation directly if they need clarification about the residency requirement. How to Apply Interested applicants should submit their applications through the official Gloria’s Foundation Fellowship application page. Application deadline: 1 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The Foundation will select two fellows through its leadership team. Successful applicants are expected to be notified by 1 December 2026. Application steps: Review the fellowship details and eligibility requirements on the official website. Prepare an application that clearly explains the applicant’s justice-focused work or independent project. Explain how the fellowship’s resources, workspace and community opportunities would support the project. Ensure that the New York metropolitan-area location requirement and US work eligibility can be met. Submit the application before the deadline and be prepared to provide one professional reference if requested. For questions about the fellowship, applicants can contact fellowship@gloriasfoundation.org. How to Strengthen an Application Applicants should clearly communicate the purpose of their work, the justice-related issue they seek to address and the communities or movements their project supports. Specific examples of previous activities, creative work or organising experience can help demonstrate commitment and readiness. It is also useful to explain how access to Gloria’s Foundation’s workspace, library and community could contribute to the project’s progress. Applicants should describe realistic goals for the fellowship year and show how they would participate in community-building activities, including the potential organisation of Talking Circles. Before applying, candidates should confirm that they can meet the in-person participation and housing requirements. Since only two fellows will be selected, a focused application that clearly connects the applicant’s work with the Foundation’s mission is important. Why This Fellowship Is Valuable The Gloria’s Foundation Fellowship offers more than financial support. It combines a stipend with access to workspace, research resources, community connections and opportunities to convene conversations around justice. For eligible activists, artists and changemakers in the New York metropolitan area, the programme may provide a useful environment for developing independent projects and strengthening relationships with others working towards social change. Deadline: 1 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET VISIT THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE TO APPLY Applicants should consult Gloria’s Foundation for the complete application instructions and any updates before submitting their applications.
