Application Deadline

The Good Authority editorial team is pleased to launch the call for applications for the second cohort of Good Authority Fellows, a one-year, non-residential fellowship designed to support political scientists who are committed to improving public understanding of politics through research-based storytelling. This fellowship offers a rare opportunity to develop skills in public scholarship, receive structured mentorship, and join a community of scholars committed to elevating political science in public debate. The program builds on the strong foundation of our inaugural cohort and responds to the growing demand for accessible, evidence-based analysis in a time of rising misinformation and democratic uncertainty. We invite political scientists who are passionate about translating their work—and the work of others—into clear, engaging content for broader audiences to apply. About the Fellowship Term & Structure Fellowship duration: March 2026 – February 2027 Stipend: $2,500 Residency: Fully remote, non-residential Time expectation: Approximately one post per month Outputs: 12 research-informed blog posts (core requirement) Optional multimedia contributions (podcast segments, interviews, short videos) Fellows will receive training, mentorship, and editorial guidance from the Good Authority editorial team—including personalized feedback on writing for non-academic audiences. This includes instruction on narrative framing, clear communication of empirical findings, and translation of peer-reviewed research into relevant commentary connected to breaking news or persistent political questions. The fellowship is designed to be flexible and accommodating to teaching schedules, research commitments, and other professional responsibilities. What Fellows Will Do Selected fellows will: Write one public-facing post per month connecting political science research to contemporary political developments or long-term political dynamics. Draw on their own research and the wider body of political science literature to produce accessible, accurate, and timely analysis. Engage with editors to refine clarity, structure, and narrative flow. Participate in optional community discussions, peer feedback sessions, or collaborative writing initiatives. Explore alternative content formats (short videos, podcasts, Q&As) if desired. Good Authority posts consistently reach large public audiences—including journalists, policymakers, educators, and engaged citizens—giving fellows a platform for meaningful impact beyond academia. Why This Fellowship Matters Political science has powerful tools to help inform the public, contextualize unfolding events, and challenge misconceptions about politics, policymaking, and governance. Yet most academic research remains inaccessible to non-experts. The Good Authority Fellows Program aims to close this gap by supporting scholars who are eager to: Bring evidence-based insights into public conversations. Strengthen the visibility of political science as a discipline. Expand the diversity of voices represented in public scholarship. Translate empirical findings into digestible, engaging formats. Build a portfolio of public writing that can support broader career goals. Through structured mentorship, dedicated editorial support, and monthly practice in public writing, fellows emerge with strengthened communication skills and an expanded professional profile.
