Application Deadline

The SVRI has announced a new remote consultancy opportunity for researchers and data analysts interested in gender-based violence research, global health, and evidence-based policy. The consultancy will focus on conducting a longitudinal analysis of SVRI Forum abstract and presentation data collected between 2009 and 2026. The selected consultant will play a key role in examining how global research on violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC) has evolved over the past seventeen years. Applications for the consultancy close on 25 May 2026, with the contract expected to run from June to August 2026. The consultancy is fully remote and will require approximately 20 to 25 working days spread across a 12-week period. The consultant will report directly to the Executive Director of SVRI. Founded as a global network dedicated to advancing research and practice on gender-based violence, SVRI has become one of the leading international platforms focused on ending violence against women and children. Since 2009, the organisation has hosted the SVRI Forum, a major global event bringing together researchers, policymakers, activists, donors, service providers, and practitioners from more than 142 countries. The 2026 edition of the SVRI Forum will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, continuing its mission of strengthening evidence-based approaches to addressing gender inequality and violence worldwide. As part of this consultancy, the successful applicant will compile, clean, code, and analyse data collected across all nine SVRI Forums held between 2009 and 2026. The project aims to create a comprehensive longitudinal dataset that documents trends in violence research, institutional participation, geographic representation, and methodological approaches over time. According to SVRI, this analysis will help inform future investments in research capacity, identify gaps in the field, and strengthen understanding of how violence research has developed globally, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The consultant will also establish a replicable coding framework and dataset structure that SVRI can continue updating after future Forums. In addition to the dataset, the consultant will prepare a detailed analytical report and a presentation slide deck summarising the findings. The research will explore several major questions related to violence research trends over time. Areas of focus include the geographic distribution of authors and institutions, the representation of LMIC researchers, participation from NGOs and practice-based organisations, and the balance between academic and community-driven knowledge production. The analysis will also examine which forms of violence are receiving the most research attention. Topics expected to be studied include intimate partner violence, childhood sexual abuse, conflict-related sexual violence, child marriage, female genital mutilation, femicide, economic violence, psychological violence, and technology-facilitated gender-based violence. Additional focus areas include the populations most represented in violence research, changes in methodologies over time, and whether the field is increasingly moving toward implementation research and participatory approaches. SVRI noted that one of the Forum’s distinguishing features is its commitment to valuing practice-based knowledge alongside academic research. As a result, the consultancy will also assess whether practitioners, frontline organisations, community groups, and government implementers are adequately represented in submissions and accepted presentations. Applicants for the consultancy should demonstrate strong experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, including coding and analysing large or semi-structured datasets. Familiarity with the violence against women and violence against children research landscape is considered highly desirable. Candidates should also possess excellent organisational and writing skills, along with proficiency in Excel and at least one statistical or data analysis software package such as R, SPSS, Stata, or equivalent tools. Experience working within LMIC research environments and multilingual skills will be considered an added advantage. Interested applicants are required to submit a brief expression of interest outlining their relevant experience and proposed approach, a CV or professional profile, a financial proposal including daily rates, and an example of previous analytical or research work. SVRI has encouraged applications from consultants based in low- and middle-income countries, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to inclusive and globally representative research leadership. The consultancy offers a valuable opportunity for researchers, analysts, and gender-based violence specialists interested in contributing to one of the most comprehensive longitudinal studies in the global VAW and VAC research field.
