The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has opened applications for four home-based technical consultancy positions under its Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division, offering experts an opportunity to contribute to global maritime governance, legal frameworks, and project delivery systems. Overview of IMO Consultancy Opportunities All four consultancy roles are temporary, home-based assignments with a shared application deadline of 2 June 2026. Technical Consultant (Marine Environment and Response Systems) Vacancy Reference: CA 26-01 Focuses on marine pollution preparedness and response systems Supports national contingency planning and capacity building 2. Legal Consultant (Maritime Law and Regulatory Frameworks) Vacancy Reference: CA 26-02 Provides expertise on maritime legal frameworks and compliance Supports interpretation and application of international maritime law 3. FAL Convention Consultant (Facilitation of Maritime Traffic) Vacancy Reference: CA 26-03 Supports implementation of the Facilitation (FAL) Convention Focuses on simplifying and standardizing maritime transport procedures 4. Project Oversight Consultant (Programme Implementation and Monitoring) Vacancy Reference: CA 26-04 Provides oversight of technical cooperation projects Supports monitoring, reporting, and implementation quality assurance Strategic Role of IMO Technical Cooperation Division These consultancy roles are managed under the Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division of the International Maritime Organization, which is responsible for supporting member states in implementing international maritime regulations and improving maritime capacity globally. The division plays a key role in: Strengthening maritime governance systems Supporting legal and technical implementation of IMO conventions Enhancing maritime safety and environmental protection Building institutional capacity in developing maritime administrations Key Themes Across All Roles While each consultancy has a distinct focus area, all positions contribute to IMO’s broader mission of promoting safe, secure, and efficient shipping while protecting the marine environment.
