globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

May 26, 2026

Description

Climate Central has announced a senior leadership opportunity for a Director of Institutional Giving, a key role responsible for expanding and strengthening the organization’s institutional fundraising portfolio in support of its global climate science and communications mission. The position is primarily remote, based in the United States, and remains open until 26 May 2026 at 5:00 pm ET. It represents a strategic expansion of Climate Central’s fundraising capacity, with a focus on securing high-value, multi-year institutional partnerships across foundations, corporations, and emerging philanthropic sectors. Advancing Climate Science Through Strategic Philanthropy Climate Central is an independent science organization that researches and communicates the impacts of climate change on people’s lives. The organization produces localized climate data, visualizations, and reporting tools designed to make climate science accessible and actionable for global audiences. Its work spans climate change impacts, sea level rise, extreme weather, energy systems, and environmental risk communication. The organization collaborates with journalists, broadcasters, and media partners across more than 150 countries, ensuring wide dissemination of its scientific research and visual storytelling tools. The Director of Institutional Giving will play a central role in securing the financial resources required to sustain and expand this global outreach. A Senior Leadership Role in Institutional Fundraising Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Institutional Giving will lead Climate Central’s institutional fundraising strategy and manage a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects. The role represents an evolution of traditional foundation relations work, expanding into a broader institutional funding ecosystem that includes philanthropic foundations, corporate giving programs, philanthropic coalitions, and emerging funding areas such as sports-related philanthropy. The Director will be responsible for building and managing long-term relationships with institutional funders capable of providing six- and seven-figure commitments. This includes identifying new funding opportunities, cultivating donor relationships, and securing multi-year grants aligned with organizational priorities. Expanding Funding Beyond Traditional Climate Philanthropy A key focus of the role is diversification of Climate Central’s funding base. The Director will be expected to identify and engage funders beyond traditional climate-focused philanthropy, including sectors such as public health, education, media, democracy, resilience, and sports and entertainment. The position also includes developing strategies for corporate philanthropy engagement, including partnerships with corporate foundations and mission-aligned companies. In addition, the role explores emerging opportunities in sports philanthropy, connecting climate science and storytelling with sports organizations, leagues, teams, and athlete-led foundations to reach broader audiences. Grant Development, Reporting, and Donor Stewardship The Director will oversee the full lifecycle of institutional funding relationships, from initial prospect identification to proposal development, grant negotiation, reporting, and renewal. Working closely with program, communications, and finance teams, the role requires the development of compelling funding proposals, impact reports, and donor briefings that clearly communicate Climate Central’s scientific findings and global impact. The Director will also ensure that reporting systems and workflows are maintained efficiently, guaranteeing timely delivery of high-quality grant documentation and donor communications. Collaboration and Organizational Strategy Internally, the role involves close collaboration with senior leadership, program teams, and finance staff to align fundraising strategies with organizational priorities. The Director will contribute to Climate Central’s broader institutional funding strategy by identifying emerging trends, advising on funding opportunities, and strengthening cross-departmental coordination. The position also supports executive and board-level engagement with institutional donors, ensuring strong alignment between governance, strategy, and fundraising outcomes. All fundraising activity will be tracked using Salesforce or similar CRM systems to ensure accurate pipeline management and revenue forecasting. Candidate Profile and Requirements Applicants are expected to have at least 10 years of experience in institutional fundraising, with a proven track record of securing large-scale foundation or corporate grants. Candidates should demonstrate success in managing complex donor portfolios, securing multi-year funding commitments, and developing strategic fundraising pipelines. Strong writing, storytelling, and communication skills are essential, particularly the ability to translate complex scientific information into compelling narratives for external audiences. The role requires advanced relationship management skills, experience working with senior institutional stakeholders, and the ability to manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously. Experience in corporate philanthropy, CSR programs, and cross-sector fundraising is considered an advantage, as is familiarity with climate, environmental, or science communication sectors. Compensation and Benefits The position offers a competitive annual salary range of $130,000 to $145,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Climate Central also provides a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, more than seven weeks of combined vacation and holidays, 12 weeks of paid family leave, and a 401(k) plan with up to 12% employer matching. Additional benefits include tuition support for employees’ children and a flexible remote work structure with occasional travel to Princeton, New Jersey, or other meeting locations. Application Timeline Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with the final deadline set for 26 May 2026. Candidates are encouraged to apply early as interviews may begin before the closing date. Applicants must submit a resume and complete position-specific application questions. Cover letters are not required as part of the hiring process. Climate Central emphasizes that it is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion, and equitable hiring practices, with a focus on building a workforce that reflects a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.
