The Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI), Cambodia’s leading independent development policy research institute, has announced a vacancy for a full-time Research Assistant within its Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI) and Center for Governance and Inclusive Society (CGIS). The position offers an opportunity for early-career researchers and development professionals to contribute to policy-oriented research focused on education, governance, social inclusion, and socio-economic development in Cambodia. Supporting Evidence-Based Development Research The selected candidate will work under the joint supervision of the directors of CERI and CGIS and will support the implementation, coordination, and administration of cross-cutting research projects across both centres. The Research Assistant will contribute to various stages of the research process, including literature reviews, research design, data collection, analysis, project coordination, and grant proposal development. The role is designed for individuals interested in advancing their careers in research, public policy, education, governance, and development studies. Key Responsibilities The position combines research support, project administration, and professional development responsibilities across four major areas. Research and Analytical Support The Research Assistant will assist with: Designing research methodologies and developing data collection tools Preparing ethics review documentation Conducting literature reviews and supporting manuscript preparation Coordinating fieldwork activities and managing enumerators Conducting interviews and surveys Data entry, cleaning, transcription, translation, and analysis Drafting analytical reports, publications, and presentations Supporting project logistics and procurement needs The role requires engagement with both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Project Administration and Coordination The successful applicant will also provide administrative and logistical support for research activities, including: Organizing meetings, workshops, and dissemination events Preparing meeting minutes and project documentation Tracking project timelines, deliverables, and budgets Supervising project interns and coordinating communication between teams Maintaining project records and updating project information for the CDRI website The institute noted that the role involves regular coordination across multiple research centres and external stakeholders. Resource Mobilisation and Grant Development As part of the role, the Research Assistant will contribute to proposal development and grant application processes by compiling background information, institutional data, and supporting documentation required for donor submissions and funding opportunities. Professional Development Opportunities CDRI emphasized that the position includes opportunities for professional growth and independent research development. The selected candidate will be expected to: Develop a self-initiated research project Prepare a research concept note and findings presentation Contribute to scholarly publications Participate in online and offline capacity-building and training programmes Required Qualifications and Skills Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or related fields: Education Political Science Economics Development Studies Social Sciences A Master’s degree will be considered an added advantage. The institute is seeking candidates with strong research and analytical skills, particularly in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Experience with data management and analysis software such as NVivo or STATA is also considered beneficial. Language and Competency Requirements Applicants must demonstrate exceptional written and spoken proficiency in both English and Khmer.
